T.A.P.S. has been in use for over 16 years and has an excellent safety record and testimonials to its success. There are over 2000 T.A.P.S.trainers. Over 25,000 people have been trained in the use of T.A.P.S.. Our program is used in 10 - 15 states and Canada. There are several core assumptions that T.A.P.S. is based upon :

Prevention and verbal de-escalation are preferable to physical interventions.
Neither the staff nor the aggressive individual is injured. Safety is of critical importance.
All approaches and techniques should make sense, and be simple so that all levels of staff can understand and use the information and physical moves.
A behavioral approach to dealing with violent/aggressive behavior reduces the frequency and duration of acting out behavior.
It is effective when used in all settings and with all types of individuals or clients.
All physical techniques are designed to be non-injurious and are adapted from the martial arts and other self-defense techniques.

Our program in Columbus, Ohio is held throughout the year, certifying new trainers to go back to their workplace and train and certify others. Once finished the course they can then teach this structured program for dealing with violent/aggressive individuals. We do this type of program about three times a year. The majority of our training is conducted on grounds of facilities or agencies that contract with us to come in and train their staff.

Three types of workshops are offered:

#1 ~ We come in and train up to 16 people in the use of this program and certify them in its use. This is a one day (8 hour) program.

#2 ~ We come in and train up to 16 people as trainers who can train and certify the other members of their staff or others in need of this program. This is a two day program.

#3 ~ A combination of the first two. We train some of the 16 class members to use the program and we train the rest of the class as trainers. This is a two day program.
